City Beautiful – Chandigarh

Are you planning to visit the City Beautiful, Chandigarh and want to know the places that you cannot afford to miss while in Chandigarh. If your answer is “Yes”, you are the right place. In today’s article, we would discuss about the must visit places in Chandigarh while travelling alone or for couples.

I got a chance to visit City Beautiful last month and I was mesmerized by the beauty of the city. Chandigarh is one of the cleanest cities in India and guys you would have to trust me on that after living in Delhi and going to Chandigarh, you feel like relocating to Chandigarh and never come back to Delhi. And the reasons for this thought are well known to every one who lives in Delhi. In Chandigarh you would find no potholes on the road, no pollution creating vehicles, traffic under control. It was like I was in heaven for a few days and my eyes didn’t had that burning sensation as well which most of the people from Delhi would face due to Pollution.

So without wasting any further time, let us talk about the 4 places that you cannot afford to miss while you are in City Beautiful:

Sukhna Lake

The fist place in my list is Sukhna lake. One should start a day by jogging and walking around the periphery of the lake. The lake is a man-made lake and was built in 1958 on the foothills of the Aravalis. It is also a best place for photographers as one can find many migratory birds around this place so you should carry your DSLR if you are going to Sukhna Lake. You can feel the cold and fresh air and you would feel relieved. And the best thing about this place is the Solar powered boat which can seat around 20-25 people and also has arrangement for eating during your Sail. You can also have the manual stirring boats and take a ride on it. The cost of boating is 100 INR and is open daily from 09:30 AM till 06:00 PM.

You can reach Sukhna lake by boarding and bus of Chandigarh Transport Union and these buses are really very well maintained. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi as well.

Rock Garden

The second place on my list to visit while staying in Chandigarh is the Rock Garden. This place is at walking distance from Sukhna Lake and one can plan to go to both places on the same day. The garden was designed by Nek Chand from Industrial and domestic wastes. It was built by him in 1957 during his spare time and has statues and other items made from waste and it looks amazing how this man can be so creative that he has turned waste products into such beautiful statues. The Rock garden is divided into three sections, my favorite was the second one wherein there was waterfall and size of the waterfall is seriously huge.

Rose Garden

If you are looking forward to relax in the lap of the mother nature, the best place to visit while in Chandigarh would in Rose Garden. It is situated in Sector-16. It was built in the year 1967 and is named after the former President of India, Zakir Hussain. The garden hosts around 800 different varieties of roses from across the globe. One can check as small man made lake inside the garden complex. As per me, the best time to visit this place is during Spring season when all the flowers are blooming and the scent of the flowers create a mesmerizing effect. Also in end of February, there is a Rose Festival that is conducted. One can plan a visit during this time as well.

Elante Mall

Elante Mall is one of the largest malls of North India and is located in the Industrial Area, phase-1 of Chandigarh. One can go this mall, if you want to take a day off and relax with your family. There are a lot of eating joints in the mall and apart from that one can also enjoy shopping while in the Mall. One can reach Elante Mall by hiring a taxi or local well maintained buses of CTU are available.

So these were the four must visit places of the City Beautiful.
